Self-Care: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How?
You see a lot of “Self-Care” posts and just skip through. It’s a popular topic nowadays. We live in a busy, demanding society. We all get it. But are you taking time for self-care?
Yeah, yeah. Self-care.
“I care for myself.”
“I do things for myself.”
But do you really?
Do you actually take time out of your day to care for yourself? To give yourself a break?
We all have a lot of things going on. We all have our own problems. We all are super busy with no time for anything.This is when priorities come in.
You have to prioritize yourself.
This post will be discussing taking yourself more seriously. Because, again, you deserve it.
September is National Self-Care Awareness Month.
Take this month to start taking care of yourself a bit more. Simply because you deserve it. This doesn’t mean only practice self-care this month, but at least you can take yourself more seriously starting this month. Because, again, you deserve it. So, this post will be discussing the who, what when, where, why and how of self-care.
You work hard day in and day out. You hustle for your money. You work hard to survive. You work hard to provide. You. You. You. You are alive and that’s enough.
Self-care is taking care of yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is small or large things we do or even say to support and improve all aspects of your health. It is becoming one with yourself and making sure you are listening to your mind and body. You have one body and you have to take care of it.
When is the right time for self-care? You shouldn’t wait until last night. You shouldn’t wait until you’re tired from the day. Take a day off to self-care. Or maybe not a full day, but taking moments of time to perform acts of self-care. It deciding to take a longer shower that day. Or to take a bath instead. Maybe read a book. etc.
Where do you do it? You can do acts of self-care anywhere. It’s not a one place kind of thing. It depends on what you want to do. Sometimes driving and listening to music can be an act of self-care. It all depends on what you’re going to do.
Self-care is an important step towards self-love and self-acceptance. These are achieved and maintained with acts of self-care habitually. It is not selfish to want to take time for yourself. Your health is the first priority you should have. Without health, you have nothing. Health gives you life. So, take care of yourself, starting with small acts of self-care. It isn’t always fun or easy, but it is necessary.
Everyone is different. Everyone self cares differently. Everyone reacts differently when they neglect to self-care, as well. Neglecting to take time for self-care can have minor and major effects on the mind and body, depending on the person and other outside elements.
And there are countless benefits. It helps reduce your stress and anxiety levels. It helps you feel better about yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It helps you sleep better at night. It allows you to become one with yourself and more in tune with your body. It boosts your immune system. And plenty more unmentioned benefits.
This one combines the when and where.
Just do it. Take some time and do something that makes you smile or something you like to do. Take the first step.
There’s really no reason not to self-care. I hope that after reading this post you are more inclined to take some time to self-care. I hope you remember its importance and follow through. Don’t ever feel guilty for doing what is best for you. It’s okay to be a little selfish sometimes.
